The Pass Christian Public Library
(Before Katrina --- August 29, 2005)
The Pass Christian Library, a member of the Harrison County Library System, is located on Hiern Avenue behind the City Hall. The public library, erected in 1973, opened its doors with approximately 6,000 donated books and has grown to house over 40,000 volumes.
In order to accommodate the growing collection, the library opened a festive children's wing in June of 1992. This edition provides parents and children with dedicated quarters that are filled with easy-to-read and juvenile specific reading materials.
Aside from traditional library services, alternatives are offered to users in such elements as videos, audio cassettes, and computer use on seven independent state-of-the-art computer systems with sharing and storage capabilities. The Pass Christian Library was the first library on the Gulf Coast to provide internet access to the public. This growing system provides students and net-explorers with hours of educational and recreational searching. The library is electronically linked with seven other members of the Harrison County Library System revealing all book holdings in the county at one glance.
The computers are also equipped with many popular applications such as Word Perfect and MicroSoft Word with accompanying laser printers. Other office use equipment available to the public are: Copy-machine, Fax, Typewriter.
Hours are: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Tuesdays until 7:00 p.m.) and also Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
